AI-Generated Content Policy
Policy on the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools in scholarly submissions
Purpose and Scope
The Journal of Sanskrit & Indic Studies recognises the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic research and writing. This policy is intended to provide clarity regarding the acceptable and responsible use of AI-assisted technologies in the preparation and submission of manuscripts to the journal.
The policy applies to all submissions, including research articles, review essays, and other scholarly contributions submitted for consideration.
Permissible Use of AI Tools
Authors may use AI-based tools in a limited and responsible manner to support the preparation of their manuscripts, provided that such use does not compromise scholarly integrity or originality.
- Language editing, grammar correction, and stylistic refinement.
- Formatting assistance and structural suggestions.
- Preliminary summarisation or paraphrasing for internal drafting purposes.
In all cases, authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, originality, and scholarly validity of their work.
Prohibited Use of AI Tools
The journal does not permit the use of AI tools in ways that undermine academic authorship, originality, or accountability.
- Submission of manuscripts substantially generated by AI without human authorship.
- Use of AI tools to fabricate data, references, citations, or sources.
- Use of AI to generate translations or interpretations of primary Sanskrit texts without scholarly verification.
- Attribution of authorship or intellectual responsibility to AI systems.
Disclosure Requirement
Authors are required to disclose the use of AI-assisted tools in the preparation of their manuscripts, where such use extends beyond routine language or formatting assistance.
Disclosure may be made in a brief statement at the time of submission. Failure to disclose relevant AI use may be treated as a breach of publication ethics.
Editorial and Review Considerations
Editors and reviewers may evaluate submissions for indications of inappropriate or undisclosed AI-generated content. Where concerns arise, the journal may seek clarification from authors or take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics policy.
Accountability and Responsibility
AI tools cannot be listed as authors, co-authors, or contributors. All responsibility for submitted content rests solely with the human author(s).
The journal reserves the right to revise this policy in response to evolving developments in AI technologies and scholarly publishing standards.
